Sustainable Design or Green Building is as much a mind set as it is a design practice. To minimize our footprint and honor the earth that gives us life, we must become more conscious about the natural resources we use and the way we choose to use them. The things we make must not only rise from the ground, but return to it so everything received can be freely given back without causing harm. Green building techniques have this philosophy at their core and Najm Design Studio has made a commitment to this path. For some the first steps taken are small, like choosing to use ecologically friendly materials or installing a solar system. For others the steps are larger and they choose to build with Straw Bales, Adobe, Rammed Earth, Rastra or otherwise.

If you are interested in taking these steps, let us know. We can incorporate alternative building materials, natural ventilation, natural lighting, passive solar design, photovoltaic's (solar electric panels), radiant heat, recycled materials, low-toxic/non-toxic materials and finishes, or more into your project. Gina has been immersed in this aspect of the field for over ten years, gaining hands on experience at workshops, taking tours of local projects and working with clients to think and go green. Whatever steps feel most comfortable and appropriate to you, we are here to help you take them and guide you along or maybe even to give you a greater nudge.
